CX2 Great Strides Walk

MADELINE CLAIRE GAMBRELL

OCTOBER 27, 2001- SEPTEMBER 1, 2018

I am so utterly heartbroken to inform those of you who have followed, and donated to our CF walk, that we lost Madeline. She gained her angel wings on 9/1/2018. Although we knew she was very sick, her passing was a complete, and utter shock. Madeline started her Junior year of high school on 8/20. She had posted a selfie that day, she looked so beautiful, and healthy. Not two weeks later, she was gone.

Garry and I received the news from her parents on Friday morning 8/31 that she was in the hospital and the Dr’s were going to send her to hospice later that day. There wasn’t anything more they could do for her. We went straight away to see her. Other than being on oxygen, she seemed her normal self, with that big smile on her face, and giggling at everyone. I will never forget those moments. Harry Potter was playing on the TV, her little sister, Savannah, was in the hospital bed with her, and like usual they were giggling at their own private jokes.

Prior to us going back to see her, she was doing paperwork with the hospital. At 16 years old, she signed her own DNR, and specified what she wanted regarding her remains. That day visiting with her, I was in awe of her strength and grace. I can’t imagine what she must have been feeling, but she did not let it show. In fact, after visiting with her, I honestly thought the Dr’s had it all wrong, and that she was going to pull through. Sadly, that was not the case.

Although we couldn’t save Madeline, we still have much faith that we will find a cure in time for Savannah, and so many others suffering with this terrible disease. I know that more than anything, Madeline would have wanted a cure found for her sister. They had a bond like no other. So, with your help, CX2 will continue to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis research, “Until It’s Done”

More about Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic Fibrosis is an incurable genetic disorder affecting thousands of children and adults in the United States. Cystic Fibrosis causes the body to create thick sticky mucus which wreaks havoc in the lungs and digestive system.

Approximately 10 million Americans are symptom-less carriers of the gene. This makes the need for research and development that much more critical.

Due to the work of CFF, driven by community support, there is more hope than ever for those living with Cystic Fibrosis. Learn more by visiting www.CFF.org.

Please help, Savannah, and all people living with Cystic Fibrosis by getting involved with Great Strides!
